Fire Alarm Installation Leeds

Optima Electrical designs, installs, tests, and maintains fire alarm systems for businesses and homes across Leeds. We work with offices, retail units, restaurants, warehouses, schools, care homes, HMOs, and industrial premises. NICEIC-approved and BS 5839 compliant, we ensure your system meets legal and safety standards.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, all commercial and public buildings must have appropriate fire detection and alarm systems. If your fire risk assessment identifies gaps — or if you do not have a system — we can survey your premises and recommend the right solution.

Choosing the Right System

The right fire alarm system depends on the size and use of your building:

Conventional systems: Divide premises into zones. When a detector triggers, the panel shows the activated zone. Suitable for smaller premises with a straightforward layout.
Addressable systems: Each detector has a unique address on the panel. Ideal for larger buildings where rapid identification of the source is critical.
Wireless systems: Radio-linked detectors require no cabling between devices. Perfect for listed buildings, older premises, or retrofits where wiring is disruptive.

We assess your premises, discuss your requirements, and recommend the system that meets BS 5839. As an electrical contractor, we handle full installation — mains wiring, circuit connections, and integration with your existing electrical infrastructure.

Testing & Maintenance

Testing & Maintenance

Fire alarm systems require regular checks to remain compliant and reliable:

  • Weekly testing: Rotate call points weekly to confirm system activation. We can include this in a maintenance contract for convenience.
  • Quarterly inspections: Competent person checks all detectors, sounders, call points, and panel functions.
  • Annual full service: Complete inspection of all components, battery backup, and detector sensitivity. A fire alarm certificate is issued, and your fire safety logbook updated.

Faults are repaired or replaced during the same visit wherever possible, minimising disruption and downtime.

Upgrading or Replacing an Existing System

Older fire alarm systems may no longer meet current BS 5839 standards. If a fire risk assessment identifies issues, we can survey and quote for upgrades or replacements.

  • Retain existing cabling where possible to reduce cost and disruption.
  • Replace panels and detectors with minimal downtime.
  • For HMO properties, we install LD2 grade systems meeting licensing requirements for multiple-occupancy homes.

This ensures your system is safe, compliant, and future-proof.
